poljšakica

Local indigenous variety

Poljšakica is an old, indigenous white grape variety from the Vipava Valley region. In the past, it was often used in blends with other varieties. Due to its durability, it thrived in more challenging sites where other varieties struggled to survive and reach suitable quality. Poljšakica wine is characterized by a lower alcohol and acidity content. Today, only a few hectares of Poljšakica remain. At the Grof estate, it is processed on the flysch terraces of Škol vineyard.

Grof Estate

Austro-Hungarian Heritage

The Grof estate spans 10 hectares of the Vipava wine-growing hills. Since 1574, it has been owned by the Austro-Hungarian Count Ivan Cobenzl, whose family owned numerous vineyards in the Vipava region. This is also the origin of the name “Grof” wines and estate.
